Traders Begin Movement to Ebonyi International Market

Work is 90 percent completed – SSG

As directed by the State government, traders from Abakpa market in Abakaliki have commenced relocation of their goods to the newly constructed Margret Umahi International Market.

Secretary to Ebonyi State Government Dr. Kenneth Ugbala who doubles as Chairman of Exco committee on Market relocation confirmed this to Peoples Guide at the new market.

Dr Ugbala who said the International market is over 90 percent completed and ready for traders to start their businesses. He added that his presence at the market was to inspect the market to ensure that all the atllary jobs were completed and to make sure that the agreement by the government and the traders to relocate from abapka main market does not exceed the agreed date.

The SSG added that the spirit of the traders were already at the market, as all of them in the early hours of the day were at the market to identify and clean the shops before packing in. He revealed that extra one week interval has been given to the traders for the relocation, stressing that installation of all the social amenities including water, electricity, school, banks,toilet,medical center, eateries, Security post among others were in progress and will be completed before the end of next week.

He commended the traders for yielding to government instructions by agreeing to move to the market without problem, and revealed Governor Umahi directives that traders should move to the market freely while payment of rents will commence after six months. Adding that it was those who wants to become landlord of the shops that are paying to the government directly.
