Lawmaker Tasks Ikwo Media Practitioners On Objectivity

The Chief Whip of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Member representing Ikwo North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Humphrey Nwuruku has charged journalist to always uphold the ethics of the profession in their duty line.

Nwuruku gave the charge when the members of Association of Ikwo Noyo Media Practitioners (AIMP) paid him a courtesy visit in his Abakaliki resident.

The Chief Whip enjoined them to always stand by the truth and avoid being used by unscrupulous politicians as an attack agent against perceived political enemies.

He thanked the association for founding him worthy for such visit and assured of his support, but however warned that he will cease to identify with the Association if they deviate from its original purpose and turn a political tool in the hands of politicians.

”I thank you for finding me worthy of this visit. I assure you of my support but, let me warn, I will withdraw myself and support if you allow yourself to be hijacked by politicians and be used as attack tool against perceived enemies,” he said.

Earlier, the pioneer National president of the Association, who is also the publisher of people’s Guide Newspaper, Comrade Israel Ekene Mbam revealed that the essence of the visit was to officially itimate him of the existence and purpose of the Association, being one of the major political leaders of Ikwo Noyo at the moment.

Mbam explained that the purpose of forming the Association was hinged on the Unity and progress of the members and Ikwo Noyo clan in general, promote the cultural heritage and discourage some of the obnoxious practices in the area.

The president enumerated some of the achievements recorded by the Association to include among others, the hosting of first Ikwo Noyo media summit in 2019, which was used to discourage Electoral violence before, during and after the 2019 general election. He also revealed that the Association also commenced a dialectical radio program called “ODULENMA IKWO” but suffered setback due to lack of sponsorship.

Mr Mbam noted that the Association which is made up of seasoned professional journalist of Ikwo extraction practicing within and outside the state, had since its formations remained apolitical and will continue to be, assuring him that the Association will at all times stand by the truth.

Others who spoke during the visit were Esther Orogbo, Uchenna Nwanchor and Alex Eziga all of Radio Nigeria, Unity Fm, appreciated Engr Nwuruku for the warm welcome accorded the group and promised to continue to work with all relevant stakeholders from Ikwo Noyo clan in ensuring that Ikwo is great again.
